Podcasts and A/C during summertime

For over a year now I have been running a small online community for complex trauma survivors and their stories.

  • I’ve been trying my best to build an online presence and to attract people to my community, but it’s hard when there are so many online places to cover these days.

It’s never enough to have a Facebook page and Instagram, you constantly have to be on top of the newest social media trend. That’s why, I started recently trying my own hand at podcasting, but for the most part, the process has been quite self-explanatory. Until it comes to the indoor air conditions! Because we’re trying to keep the sound pure, both of us have to record the podcast indoors and rely on indoor ventilation to keep us comfortable for hours at a time. The temperature control has to be at the exact right settings before the podcast starts, or else we’ll be dripping with sweat through the entire podcast. Because it’s the middle of summer season, this means both of us are operating our a/cs pretty heavily. Not only is the cost of operating a central cooling system quite costly, but the sound of an A/C device is also becoming a large obstacle. Whenever we’re speaking, we’re trying to drown out background sounds as much as possible. Unfortunately, our ancient a/c is not very considerate about the background humming and banging as the cooling system turns on and off. You undoubtedly notice the a/c in the background of our podcast. It has entirely forced us to stop recording as soon as cool air starts flowing to the vents! At this rate, it’s going to take forever to complete even one podcast because we’re working around the a/c schedule.
