The Summer brings with it a certain dread.
It’s not that I dread that the youngsters are out of school and will subsequently be kneeling about the apartment all summer.
I don’t even certainly mind that our outside activities have to be limited to the afternoon or the night. Living here, the Summer comes with large heat and youngsters inside playing video games all summer. I think this and have long ago accepted it. The thing that fills myself and others with dread is getting the power bill during the Summer months. That utility bill just wrecks the household budget. It jumps exponentially. And, then you factor in the yearly increase in kilowatt minutes and it spells doom for our checkbook. This year, I am hoping to remedy that situation a bit. Or, at least lower the level of utility bill dread a notch or more than one. I got a bit proactive this Spring to see if I can lower our energy bills at least 15 percent or maybe even closer to 20 percent. Basically, both of us have just set the control equipment and dealt with the Heating & Air Conditioning costs. This year, there is a strategy. To start, I installed a smart control equipment which will more precisely control the Heating & Air Conditioning use. Both of us are going to let the inside temperature rise as the outside temperature does. This means everyone will have to get used to a bit more warmth inside which they can combat with fans. I also spent a few weekends making sure that our lake apartment was sealed as slim as possible to avoid leaking Heating & Air Conditioning treated air. There will be no more manual control of the Heating & Air Conditioning because both of us just have to carve out some savings.
