When I took a new position with the HVAC company in town I didn’t have a clue what most of the terms meant. To be honest after a week or so I wondered if I would ever catch on to what people were talking about. I had graduated college with a business degree so my options were wide open when it came to office jobs. This company was well known, had an excellent reputation for service and were quite busy. They hired me to work as a call center receptionist. This meant that I could schedule appointments for service and routine maintenance on HVAC systems for clients. The first day or so I was able to shadow a fellow employee so that I would understand my duties, after that I was left on my own. The first time someone called and needed an appointment to have their heat exchanger looked at my only thought was, “how do you exchange heat”?. I slowly learned the difference between forced air, hot water, and even geothermal systems and I think I have a handle on most of the trouble calls now. Our HVAC technicians have been a big help in my learning process because they are always happy to talk me through any of the questions that I have.
