My parents have always dreamed about adding a sunroom to the back of their house.
I’ve heard my parents talk about moving and finding a home with a sunroom already built, but they didn’t want to leave the house that they’re currently in.
My mom and dad are retiring in a few short months, so my brother and I wanted to do something special for them and add a sunroom. It would be a lengthy process and we wanted it to be a surprise, which meant we had to get them out of the house. My brother and I told my parents that we booked them a vacation as a retirement gift, so they left the house for 2 weeks. During that time a construction crew came out and constructed the sunroom of their dreams. The contractor told my brother and I that although the sunroom would be pretty, it would need a source of air conditioning if we wanted my parents to be comfortable in it all year round. He suggested that we have the central HVAC system connected to the sunroom by adding a few air vents that connected to the existing ductwork. My brother and I didn’t have the time or money to do that, so he suggested we install a ductless mini split system. It was the best way to get air conditioning that didn’t need to be connected to the existing ductwork. It was also the cheaper and less time consuming option. We were able to pick up the ductless mini system from the hardware store and install it before our parents returned from their trip!
