Reducing airborne risks through good HVAC

I think we are all a bit shook right now.

  • Well, at least those of us who are taking the current corona viruse pandemic seriously.

There are those who are still flouting the recommendations from the most qualified epidemiologists the planet has to offer. Not me, I am staying home, working from home and spending nearly my entire day inside the HVAC comfort of my home. I live in an area where the temperatures have already begun to rise which has started our yearly march toward the heat of summer. Subsequently, the HVAC cooling is on through at least the peak heating hours of each day. While I don’t yet have a whole house air purifier that can kill virus, I do have my steady, reliable HVAC. Much of our focus has been on doing all we can not to get and/or spread this virus. A big part of that is to do all we can to keep our immune systems as strong as possible. Believe it or not, the HVAC system in our homes has a great deal to do with that. The HVAC unit we rely upon does more than simply blow heated or cooled air into our homes. It serves a much more important role. When the HVAC is removing heat from the home, it is also balancing the humidity levels at the same time. This is nice because, through our HVAC unit, the air in our homes isn’t muggy and close. However, balancing the humidity has a great deal to do with keeping our immune systems strong. Lessening of the humidity keeps mold at bay. Mold can be a severe immuno suppressant, thus weakening our natural defenses.
