Unreasonable customer request for HVAC service.

My family has been in the HVAC business for nearly three generations and we have seen just about everything when it comes to customers and the service request that they ask for, however, the one we got last week was one for the books.

It started out as a typical phone call or an annual maintenance check up but by the end of it our dispatch person told the customer on the other end of the line that we would be unable to complete the service call.

I know you’re probably thinking that it is a bad idea to refuse business but this lady was out of control. Apparently she is a germaphobe and wanted the technician to completely disinfect himself prior to entering her home. We always take extra precautions especially in times like these but there is a point where you can only do so much. She told her dispatch person that she would need the technician to spray down all of his equipment with a bleach solution prior to bringing it into the house and subject himself to being sprayed down with a disinfectant spray. Not only is this a safety hazard for our employees but we would never agree to anything like that anyway. Having people come into your home and service your appliances or do repairs is something that we all need to do but you have to be reasonable when it comes to thinking about the person doing the job as well. If you are that worried about doing business with a company perhaps you should reconsider who you are trusting to have in your house to begin with.
