Investing in central air conditioning because of road construction

I live in an area where the winter is by far the longest season. However, even the spring and fall tend to be chilly and damp. Because of the severity of the weather, we rely on the furnace for approximately eight months out of the year. By early September, I make sure all of the windows are shut tight and the house sealed to prevent energy losses. I pay huge heating bills and spend lots of time shoveling snow and scraping ice. Due to temperatures well below zero and non stop snowfall, my family spends the majority of our time huddled inside. The air tends to get very dry and stale. We’re all eager for nice weather and fresh air. When the outside temperature warms up, I like to open the windows and avoid paying huge utility bills for a little while. I saw no reason to install a central air conditioner to combat two months of heat and humidity. We managed with box fans and window air conditioners in the bedrooms until just a couple of years ago. At that time, the county decided to replace the road in front of my house. They brought in heavy machinery and crews of workers and started the job very early every morning. They created a tremendous amount of noise and debris. It became impossible to have our windows open. A layer of dust accumulated on our cars every day, and I couldn’t allow the contaminants to come inside through the screens and affect our air quality. With the windows shut, the house quickly became uncomfortably hot and sticky. The road construction project was scheduled to last all summer. I finally had no choice but to call up a local HVAC contractor and invested in central air conditioning.
