It must be over 100F today with the humidity and I am so happy for my central HVAC system that I could give it a big hug.
I guess it isn’t easy to hug the HVAC system but I could keep it clean and running well instead of a hug.
I am changing the filter every three months just like they said and getting it serviced on a regular basis. I have a washable HEPA filter, actually two of them, and clean it every three months by rinsing it with soap and water to remove all of the dust and debris. I put the filter out in the sun on my front balcony for a couple of hours to let the sun dry it out naturally. I used to try and dry them by hand with a towel and put them back in the air handler of the HVAC system but I could never get all of the water from the filter. The sun does a much better job of drying the filter, and does so without chafing the plastic screen of the filter like rubbing it with a towel does. I never asked the HVAC rep how to clean it but I figure washing it with soap and water and letting it dry in the sun is a good method which will allow it to last a long time. Maybe next week I will go to the HVAC business who installed my unit to ask them how to clean the filter so that it lasts a long time. They know it all.
