The idea of living inside of an old jetliner was nowhere near on my radar when it came to putting a real lake house on my property, and it’s also sort of ironic that I now live in an old plane, however I hated getting on planes.
It wasn’t due to actual flying as much as it was the heating and cooling during air travel, and when you’re packed in on a long flight and the heating and air conditioning isn’t right, it’s just no good.
I used to fly quite often for corporate travel. Thankfully, instead of hating air travel, I like living inside an old jet. I have lived inside apartments for a long time because I’ve constantly lived and worked in the city. While my lake house was simply okay, I longed for homeownership and having my own heating and air conditioning equipment; and so I bought a piece of property about 90 minutes out of the neighborhood that’s in the woods and just beautiful. When I was figuring out what sort of structure to put on it, I was invited to consider using the fuselage of the plane as living quarters. I did it and I also like it. The heating and air conditioning professionals were able to install a pair of ductless heat pumps for quality heating and air. And I did a lot of the work myself… Now, I have 1,400 square feet of the cold lake house at a fifth of the cost of building a similar space with central a/c. I wouldn’t have believed it had I not done it myself. So now, I’m finally getting the quality heating and air that I want on my airplane.
