These air conditioners are great for cooling down one room, but simply don’t have the power to cool the whole house

My wife and I have four kids. I work 60 hours a week to make money, and Jade works twice that many hours keeping house and minding the children. The economy is terrible right now, and we could surely use a new revenue stream for our family, but it’s simply impossible. The amount of money we would have to spend on childcare would be more than the money Jade could make at a job. I pick up all the extra hours I can, but it never seems to be enough. We could really use some extra money, because the central HVAC system is on its last legs, and currently we can’t afford a replacement. We had a bit of a lucky break last week when Jade won a radio contest with the grand prize of a new air conditioner. We were so excited at first, because we thought it meant we could replace our faulty central HVAC system, but that was not the case. It turns out the grand prize was a small, window-mounted air conditioner, which was still a good prize, just not what we needed. Looking a gift horse in the mouth is never a good idea, so we picked up the air conditioner and I installed it in our living room that very night. These air conditioners are great for cooling down one room, but simply don’t have the power to cool the whole house. At least we have one room with perfect climate control while I keep saving money to repair the system, which is better than nothing.

It took me twenty years, but finally I got the chance to operate a robot at work! This has been a long time coming, because ever since I was young I have been obsessed with robots and sci-fi technology.

I read a lot of comic books back then, and watched a lot of cartoons, and my imagination was always captivated by stories involving futuristic technology.

I would even draw pictures and blueprints for robots I wanted to make one day. Eventually my passion for tech led me into the HVAC industry, but that was by default. HVAC tech is evolving at a breakneck pace, and has been for 20 years, so even though they don’t use robots or lasers it is still pretty interesting. Well, after 10 years in the business I finally got my chance to play with a next-gen kind of toy, when I used a drone to explore the ductwork of an abandoned building. The job was to remove all the old ductwork from an abandoned office building. This place was 15 stories tall, and there was a literal maze of air ducts inside it. It would have taken a crew of HVAC techs an entire week just to evaluate everything, but with my drone skills I was able to map it out in just one day. By piloting the drone through the ductwork I could get footage so the other techs knew where all the trouble zones were located. I really hope we get more big jobs like this, because using this drone is the most fun I’ve ever had doing HVAC work.

After having a bad breakup, having the upper hand is important to some people. I know it was important to Jade. She was the one who dumped me, and then the one who came crawling back. It was the worst breakup of my life, and I was emotionally devastated for weeks. When she tried to get me back, I was just starting to get over her and wasn’t interested in going backwards with my life. I held my ground, kept away from her, and started putting in extra shifts with the local HVAC contractor. One day Jade’s name showed up on my list of work orders, and she called in requesting an HVAC inspection and tune-up. I really did not want to face her, but all the other HVAC techs were booked solid, so I had no choice. I will say that it was the hardest HVAC inspection of my entire career. Jade had a new boyfriend, and the real purpose of my HVAC inspection was for her to torment me. She was so lovey-dovey with this guy, and even though I was digging through ductwork and checking fuses, she was trying to upset me. I always strive for professionalism so I ignored her as best I could and focused on doing a top-quality HVAC inspection and tune-up for her. I knew that if I didn’t do my job well she would complain to the HVAC contractor about me. It took about two hours, and I was in mental anguish the whole time, but finally I finished her HVAC work, gave her the invoice and left, never to see her again.

My friend Griff has become an expert on winning radio contests and giveaways.

• You know the kind I mean, right? The radio DJ will say “okay, the 15th caller wins free tickets to the show!” and then everyone scrambles to call in fast enough.

I always thought these things were totally random, and there was no way to become skilled at winning. I was wrong, because Griff has tricks that help him win. Multiple phones, radio stations on speed dial, and a series of fake names to use when collecting multiple prizes. He isn’t allowed to win under his own name anymore! That is why when he won a gift certificate for an HVAC company he gave them my name instead of his own. It was not transferable, which means I now had 500 dollars credit with an HVAC supply shop. I was psyched at first, but then I realized that in the world of HVAC five hundred dollars is not that much. New air conditioners cost thousands of dollars, and even the cheap window-mounted units cost several hundred. I decided to buy the nicest dehumidifier and air purifier they had, which took most of my prize money. Since I had to spend it all, or lose it, I put the rest of the money towards a multipack of air filters. Air filters don’t go bad, so I bought two or three years worth of them. Now I have enhanced air quality in my home, and I won’t have to worry about buying air filters for a long time. Thanks Griff!

When we rented the cabin, I felt that we were misled by the rental agent.

She didn’t lie to us, but she certainly left out a few key details that might have changed our minds. Instead of getting mad, I decided to get even, which is what I wanted to tell you all about. Was I wrong for doing what I did? I know it’s pretty illegal, but I still don’t think it was morally wrong. If you swindle someone, don’t get mad when they try to swindle you back! If the lady would have told us the rental cabin didn’t have air conditioning, we would have made a different choice. Instead, we arrive at the cabin for a weekend-long party session, and find that there is no climate control in the middle of a brutally hot summer heat wave. The same rental agent had other cabins in the area, so I walked around and looked at all of them until I found one with an air conditioner. It was one of the small A/C units that you mount in a window sill with brackets, so with the right tools I could remove it from the outside of the cabin. I got my friends to stand watch and help me lower it to the ground, then we carried the air conditioner back to our cabin and set it up. We didn’t want to go through all the work of mounting it again, so we left the A/C unit in the middle of the floor. It really made our weekend a lot better.

My wife Jade started calling in to radio contests when she was stuck at home with COVID.

After a couple of weeks she had won several prizes, and developed a taste for it. From there she started using careful strategy to maximize her chances of winning. These contests always involve being the right number of all the callers dialing into the radio station. Jade has three phones hooked up with radio station numbers on speed dial, so she can stack the odds in her favor. Last week she won store credit with a local HVAC supplies dealership, and we are pondering how to best spend this money. Sadly, the prize is only good for purchases, not for HVAC services, which means we can buy physical items but can’t use it for an inspection or a house call. Jade has long wanted a smart thermostat to replace the decade-old dial thermostat we currently have. I was surprised to see how inexpensive the smart thermostats were, I expected them to cost a lot more. Since we still had money left to spend, I advocated buying as many HEPA air filters as we could. Air filters are not cheap, and since they need to be replaced every few months, I thought it would be smart to stock up while we had the chance. Jade wanted to get an air purifier for her nightstand instead, and since it was technically her prize, I didn’t argue. The smart thermostat is really cool, and even responds to limited voice commands, and the air purifier has helped us both to sleep better.

Once every couple of weeks I try to take my wife out for a couple of days to a bar or maybe to have some karaoke.

When both of us can’t get to the celebration often, both of us take some turns doing something at home. However when both of us are able to make it, both of us take turns singing and both of us have many drinks. Both of us make our time great as well as try to have fun. Having a couple of kids can make it difficult for all of us to relax as well as occasionally have fun as well as karaoke is something we do that is a welcome way to get rid of the parental stress. Last time that both of us went to the karaoke, my wife won a prize. All of us hoped the prize would be money but instead it was a gift certificate to a heating as well as air conditioner supply shop. We could have probably gone to jail over this and it was an incredible close call that forced myself as well as others to learn that we needed to change our life.

All of us stole some things as well as thought we could pocket some money. I had to change my behavior when all of us realize that we were so close to jail. Time has passed and that means that I can talk about the problems in public. I have wanted to Long confess but was having to wait until there was no more expiration of the statute of limitations. I certainly did not want to be charged with a crime. I was stealing an AC unit. The more that both of us stole the AC units, the more that we made our crimes absolutely crazy. We even stole a moving van that was filled with heating as well as air conditioner equipment. Both of us did not really honestly know how much these furnaces as well as air conditioners were worth. We knew the truck was filled up with parts. The inventory was set up with a device and a PC researcher told us that the resale value gave us $20,000 worth of equipment. At work both of us have some really crazy stories about exes. Every one of us have stories about people that they have dated or even married that were absolutely in addition to completely nuts. The people I was with an addition to myself grew up on a country farm. Our childhood was absolutely wonderful. The people in addition to myself were blessed to have our parents that were understanding in addition to progressive. They were direct from the Midwest like all of my other siblings as well as cousins. Everyone was much the same way. The people I was with in addition to myself were a bit different from all of our other people. Times were different and we were ahead when we were reading. When everyone in the family was done with school, I was hoping to be able to attend a college class. For me it turned out to be a Technical School instead. Technical School gave me the opportunity to learn about a couple of different types of careers. I genuinely chose a career in Heating and plumbing. Heating and plumbing was going to be a great technical career. My siblings in addition to my cousins are also in the heating, ventilation in addition to AC field. All of us knew that it would be a good choice because we could make an honest living working on heating, ventilation in addition to AC problems and we could also help out at home in the barn when there are problems such as that. When I can help out with problems only 10% of my task would involve working away from the home. The gas furnace near the barn gets regular disfigure and correctly it needs a tune-up most of the time.
