For almost a week, I was waking up every morning with a runny nose and sore throat.

I didn’t know what was going on.

I had never had problems with allergies. I also felt good once I got out of the house. I called and made an appointment at the doctor’s office. I told the doctor about my sudden allergy attacks. I told him how I woke up feeling horrible, but when I headed outside the house, I was feeling much better. I had no signs of allergies when I got to the doctor. He did a thorough check-up and told me he couldn’t find anything wrong. He asked me if I had my ductwork cleaned, or if I had at least changed the air filters in my HVAC system? I asked him if he was pushing a family member who was an HVAC technician? He didn’t find my question funny, nor did I find his question appropriate. He explained that if I had a dirty HVAC system, it could cause respiratory problems. I went home and called the HvAC company. They set up an appointment for me for the following day. I had never had the ductwork cleaned, and no one told me I had to change air filters. I was worried about how much damage the ductwork and air filters could do to my lungs, but I was more worried about the damage it could do to my HvAC systems. After making the phone call I did some research online and found all kinds of complications that could arise from my not cleaning the HVAC system.

Unlike some husbands, I actually helped my wife plan our wedding from day one. There’s just too much for two people to handle, let alone one. I never wanted a big wedding, but I knew that my wife did. She had talked about it on and off since we first met each other. When the big day finally arrived, we were hoping that things would proceed without any issues. Unfortunately, the air conditioner stopped working in our wedding venue the morning of the big day. When I arrived at the building to help set up everything, it felt like a sauna in there. I was seriously worried that we would be forced to cancel and reschedule our wedding, but thankfully they had an HVAC repairman over there almost immediately. He had the air conditioner running again just as the first guests started to arrive.

Even after restaurants in my state were reopened during the worst period of the pandemic, I refused to eat out. The number of infections was still high and my doctor was really blunt with me about the risks. He said that people have no choice but to remove their masks when they eat. I have always been sensitive to sound, even when I was a young child.

My father used to work in construction and sometimes took my sister and I to job sites where he was working.

I was frightened by the heavy machinery at that age. A lot of young boys would have been thrilled to see construction equipment like that, but it imparted on me a real sensitivity for loud noises. I didn’t like going to high school football games because of all the shouting, despite them being the main hangout spots for my friends at that age. I have never been able to get on a motorcycle because of the roaring sound of the engine. It’s easy to see why I’m such a light sleeper, as I can awaken from the sound of a person walking on the floor near my bed. Even the air conditioning kicking on sometimes wakes me up from my sleep. This got worse after we installed a new a/c last month that is more powerful than our old one. The air handler is inside a closet down the hall from our bedroom. I often hear it turning on in the middle of the night as I will open my eyes half awake in confusion. It’s frustrating because the air conditioner turns on and off a lot to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature. I can’t afford to get a new air conditioner, nor would I want a less powerful system just because the current one is a little louder than I’m used to. I have since solved this problem by using ear plugs while I sleep at night. If my wife wasn’t here, I’d be worried that I wouldn’t be able to hear the smoke or carbon monoxide detectors in the event of an emergency.

Compared to the feeling of dry heat in desert climates, our heat feels like a literal blanket on the skin. In lower temperatures it can be a source of comfort, but once you’re reaching the 80s during a day of full sunlight, that blanket feels like a straight jacket. I like to use a dehumidifier in my home to address the moisture that gets in from outside. Out of the few people I know who own dehumidifiers, almost all of these people only use them for their basements and not their kitchen or living room. In general, it’s more common to find people who only rely on their air conditioners for regulating their home’s moisture levels. I tell my friends that they should at least run their air conditioners in the summer if they won’t use dehumidifiers, otherwise they’re letting their homes get over 70% humidity inside. Mold is no joke and can poison you, sometimes requiring hospitalization. It ruins everything you own that is porous, from books and paperwork to furniture, drywall, and clothing. An air conditioner coil will also get dirtier faster in a home with an existing mold problem. Since evaporator coils are always wet by nature of their role in the refrigeration cycle, they are always prone to microbial buildup.

My wife is really buckling down and tightening up the budget for us this year! She has always been a pretty stingy person, but it’s gotten a lot worse over the past year.

I think it’s because of all of the shutdowns that happened around here because of Covid last year. She was nervous that we might lose our jobs and our income because of the shutdowns and so she really started to tighten up the purse strings lately. She doesn’t want to let me purchase hardly anything at all, and it’s getting old, if you ask me. The worst thing that she has decided that we need to do is to stop using our central air conditioning system this summer. When she first started trying to revamp our budget, she noticed that our air conditioning bills were always one of the most expensive things that we have to pay during the summer. That’s why she decided that this summer, we should not really use our central A/C much at all. I tried to tell her that the reason that our cooling bills are so high is because it gets so ridiculously hot around here during the summertime! If we don’t run our A/C this summer, we might literally just melt away when the temperatures start heating up. You would have to know my wife, though. She is a real hard case when it comes to spending money. I don’t know what I’m going to do! Probably, I’m just going to be hot this summer. I can’t ever get that woman to change her mind.

I signed up for this online dating site a few months ago and I’ve had pretty good luck with it so far. I’ve met several nice people but yesterday I went on a date with this woman who seemed to be dating me for all the wrong reasons. On my dating profile I put down my profession, which is an HVAC technician. I have been an HVAC technician for almost twenty years now, since I got my HVAC certification straight out of high school and I’ve been working full time ever since. I have never had an issue with it before in three whole months of using this dating site, but this particular lady seemed more interested in the heating and cooling aspect of my profile than in anything else about me. She literally started asking me questions about her central air conditioning system from the moment that I picked her up. She was asking all kinds of specific questions about her specific central air conditioning system. I felt like she was really trying to get free air conditioning repair advice from me rather than trying to get to know me. I honestly didn’t feel like she was interested in me as a person at all. She just wanted to find out what I knew about her type of A/C system and see if I could come and fix it for her for free! I couldn’t believe it, but I guess every date isn’t going to be a winning situation. This date was one of the worst dates I’ve ever been on in my life!

My mind just wanders away, even if I’m doing something that I enjoy. Sometimes when I’m watching a movie that I really like, I will watch for ten minutes and then I realize that I have no idea what just happened on the screen right in front of me. It’s even worse when I’m actually trying to do something like work at home because I seem to get even more distracted at that point. It’s annoying when there’s something going on at my house because it’s nearly impossible for me to pay attention to my work. For instance, my central air conditioning unit has been making an annoying tapping noise lately whenever it’s running. I don’t know what the issue is, and I can’t say that I know very much at all about HVAC systems in general. The A/C seems to be cooling the house down just fine though. The only problem is the infernal tapping! It drives me bonkers, especially when I’m trying to make a phone call for work. I end up having to turn the A/C completely off when I’m working because I keep losing my train of thought thanks to the tapping noise that it makes. I guess I’m going to have to break down and call the local HVAC company to make an appointment.

My brother worked for one summer as an assistant at a local HVAC company and now he thinks that he knows all that there is to know about heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and air purification.

It’s pretty annoying to me because I actually do know just about everything about the heating and cooling profession.

That’s because for the past twenty years, I have been the owner of a local commercial heating and cooling company. Not only did I get my HVAC certification straight out of high school, but I’ve also been doing continuing education for the past two decades. Any time that new HVAC technology comes out on the market, I’m the first one to sign up for a class or lecture or tradeshow so that I can go and learn all about it. But then of course my younger brother, who is an absolute know-it-all, goes to work for one summer as an assistant to an HVAC technician and all of a sudden, he knows just as much as I do about furnaces, air conditioning systems, and air purification systems. I say that with all of the sarcasm that I can muster. Anyway, it’s gotten to the point where I can barely stand to be around my own brother. He just won’t shut up about all of the things that he supposedly knows about the heating and cooling industry now. Some days, my patience is shorter than other days. I’m not a violent man, but I’m afraid that one day I might just punch him in the mouth or something!

I worked for a reputable bank for a long time, but I swear the bosses treated the workers like children.

They would always tempt everybody with treats or snacks and they would even send people to “time out” if they were not behaving as they should. It’s true, there were a lot of immature people working at the bank, and it was something that made me feel out of place. I didn’t care about a lot of these young musicians that these youngsters would be talking about, and I certainly didn’t have any reason to act out. I also didn’t like it when the bosses would regularly be trying to give me candy, like I could afford to eat unhealthy food all the time. The youngsters were all about the candy though, and I would tell them they better keep on top of brushing their teeth. It made me shudder to think of the dental complications they would have if they kept eating junk food like that. All I cared about was that the temperature control settings were just right and there were no issues with the HVAC system. I always preferred to have good air quality and I mostly liked to work alone. I didn’t work with the customers, I focused on data entry and other responsibilities, but even I would be treated like some high school student by these bosses who were actually younger than I was. Let’s just say that I was happy when I got a job working from home where I could easily adjust my own temperature control settings to feel comfortable.
