I so miss the flowers in spring and planting in the garden.

I have tomato plants ready to be put into the ground, but even though it is May, we had snow the other night.

Normally I would have my tomatoes in the ground, and my flowers would be blooming. Although the daffodils and crocus don’t mind the snow, my roses are not so happy. I cannot wait until spring finally arrives. The problem is that once the temperatures warm up, they will go directly from spring to summer temperatures within a couple weeks. I stood in the kitchen looking out at the quickly melting snow, and I remembered I hadn’t yet had my air conditioning unit serviced. I grabbed my coffee, walked over to the table and picked up my phone to call the HVAC company.. A part of me was thinking it was going to be a long time before I needed the air conditioner, but then I glanced at the TV. The weather had just come, and our meteorologist was predicting eighty degrees by the end of the week. He always did his mumbo jumbo far-out forecast, and he was saying the eighties were going to stick around for quite some time. I called the HVAC company and told them I needed service for my air conditioning unit. The HVAC tech laughed and said I must have seen the forecast. I had, but I had already thought this had to be the last snow of the season and I was ready for spring, summer, and air conditioning.

That was about how long it took for me to spend all of that money… Some of it went to bills, which I believe was the intent, but a lot of it went to our weed guy, because I needed to get the biggest possible supply while I had the money, but because of this, I ignored the longstanding issue with both the breaks on our car, plus the air conditioning unit in our house.

In retrospect, it was a bad idea, but at the time it seemed that it could work out! This was right after the first stimulus check hit, plus pretty much everyone was feeling flush for at least more than two minutes. That was about how long it took for me to spend all of that money… Some of it went to bills, which I believe was the intent, but a lot of it went to our weed guy, because I needed to get the biggest possible supply while I had the money, but because of this, I ignored the longstanding issue with both the breaks on our car, plus the air conditioning unit in our house. Two weeks later our home is sweltering, so warm it feels almost like the oil furnace is still on, plus all this weed I have is kind of worthless! Without a nice air conditioned environment to chill out plus relax, smoking weed is a waste because I am too uncomfortable to like the high. Without money for A/C repair, I realized our only course of action was to sell off some of this weed to get the money, I tried to sell as little as possible, just enough to spend our savings for a home call from a mobile air conditioning maintenance service, but by the time I had enough money I was almost out of weed! I could have saved myself a lot of trouble plus time if there was a nearby heating, ventilation plus A/C maintenance tech that worked for weed instead of money. So now our air conditioning is actually working again, plus I am out of weed again.

I have three kids, so the summers are always a very busy time at my house.

I know a lot of parents grouse and fuss about school not being open to babysit their kids, but I like summer vacation. I like spending more time with the kids, and I especially like not having to get up early to drive them around. The downside is this oppressive heat we get around here, which pretty much makes the swimming pool and the air conditioner our best friends for three months. The problem is that I am lazy, and if I had my druthers I wouldn’t go outside at all, and bask in the glory of the air conditioning through all of this humid mess. What I don’t want to do is encourage that sort of slothful behavior in my kids, who are spoiled enough already by video games and climate control. If I tell them that they can spend 3 months as shut in, just because it’s hot outside, they might become morbidly obese lay-abouts who never venture outside the comfort of an AC system, and we can’t have that. When we go to our friends’ house to use their pool, that is perfect because I can stay inside, in the air conditioning, and watch them be active in the pool. I don’t have to stay outside at all, and they get exercise. It’s win win, and I remain in the air conditioning for a few more wonderful minutes.
