Irritated, I contacted the local Heating & Air Conditioning corporation & put in a request for a visit. I was not cabin when the Heating & Air Conditioning professional got there, so I had my son let him in. He went to work in the attic, which happened to be directly above the family room. When I returned I observed a dark stain on my brand current antique arm chair! The Heating & Air Conditioning professional had accidentally spilled a dark substance in the attic & it was leaking onto the chair from the ceiling. He must have heard me yell because he came suddenly out of the ceiling & down to the family room. Once he observed the stain, he instantly apologized & provided to have the chair upgraded. I accepted his apology, however there was no upgradement for this unique armchair. I told him that it was one of a kind, & he felt awful.

They would call me complaining of how they heard ghosts at night. Although I constantly reassure them otherwise, they still believe the house is haunted even as teens that they are now. When they wake up with insomnia and imagine the noises at night, it would make it even harder to try to sleep at night. We came to find out later that the old boiler was the culprit for the loud banging and whistling sounds. I too hated hearing that thing go off in the middle of the night whenever I visited my parents in late Autumn, winter, or even in early Springtime seasons. We had a boiler as our only heating equipment so there was nothing we could do then. That boiler was running all the time during the weeks, especially when it was the coldest months. Thankfully, nowadays my parents live in a home with a furnace that does not make a ton of frightening noises all night. It’s fairly quiet now unless you’re kneeling right next to it in the basement. Despite the improved efficiency and lack of noise, my kids are still not convinced grandma’s house isn’t haunted.

We moved into this part of the country about 4 years ago when a better job came calling.

The town that we had been raised in is slowly becoming slower in terms of opportunities and people are leaving it all the time.

Those openings are getting slimmer for pretty much everyone from the region. It’s one of those cities that was known for the industrialization it had between the early 1900s and 50s. For an unfortunate reason most of the manufacturing that used to happen here has shifted and is now outsourced overseas unlike when I was a kid. As such, all those jobs that were in those factories seemed to have disappeared overnight. It was rough for a large number of people. We ended up having to leave ourselves although we had stayed a little longer because of our parents. But once they passed away there was nothing holding my sister and I to the part any longer. The new neighborhood we currently live in is nice, more so because of the friendly people and the numerous openings here, although the environment is not our favorite thing yet. It’s severely dusty and the dust gets everywhere. It gets into our home through the windows, the doors, and ends up into the air that we breathe. We have to use whole-home air purifiers regularly just to filter the air and make the space more comfortable for us all. It’s genuinely aggravating at times having to deal with the added cost of HVAC just because the space oes not accommodate it. Note that those filters you put in the whole-house air purifiers aren’t cheap either, as they’re HEPA filters with a charcoal filter affixed.
