Recently I have decided to remodel the bathroom.

My husband and I just purchased our first home and the house was almost perfect except for the bathroom.

I’m not sure who lives in the house before us and if they did this or the house just came this way but the bathroom has got to be one of the strangest bathrooms I’ve ever seen. The bathtub is triangular, the toilet is right next to the sink, and the color is hideous. It’s all green! But that’s not even the strangest part. The strangest part about our bathroom is that there is a heating and cooling unit. Yes, I mean a flow blown heating and AC system. The crazy thing is the heat and air conditioning system works too. But why would you put a heating AC system in the bathroom? The question I don’t think I’ll ever have the answer to. There is this massive air vent that’s on the ceiling directly above the toilet so if you have the AC on you’re going to have nothing but cold air blasting directly down on you while you do your business. Needless to say, my husband and I are eager to get this HVAC system moved as soon as possible. We’ve already scheduled an appointment with the local heat and AC provider and they’re supposed to be out next Monday to take care of the issue. I’ll be glad to have a normal bathroom without all the strangeness.

Yesterday my new bug zapper arrived in the mail. When it got here I couldn’t wait to test it out. I have been having a very serious mosquito problem in my backyard and it’s so bad that I can’t sit outside and enjoy myself without having the little bloodsuckers coming to bite me. But now thankfully those days are gone, a distant memory. I took my new electric bugs and I hung it outside out by the back porch not too far from where the heating and air conditioning system is. My yard isn’t very big so I had to place it kind of close to the heating and cooling system which wasn’t my first spot to pick because I was afraid the heat and AC system would make the mosquitoes less inclined to fly into the bug zapper. This is a shame because I love my heating and air conditioning system and there’s no way I’m turning it off because in the summer heat there’s no way I want to go without air conditioning. Thankfully, I found out that I was wrong because the bug zapper works just fine and I noticed it hasn’t had an effect on the amount of mosquitoes that have been killed. It is great though because now I have been able to sit outside and actually enjoy the outdoors. I love to listen to the animals out at night. The owls, the crickets, the frogs. So it’s nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy them without having to worry about getting eaten alive.

When everyone around me started getting smart thermostats I didn’t want to be left out until I decided to get one too.

Plus I decided to go to time to move on to something more modern.

For the longest time I’ve been using a basic dial thermostat, and while he had done his job well at helping me maintain the temperature in my home where I want them to be. I loved all of the things I was hearing about smart thermostats. The main thing that was the biggest selling point for me was the fact that I could control it from anywhere. I didn’t even have to be home and yet I could control the indoor climate!? Now that’s amazing! Technology has become so convenient and simple. All I have to do is open an app on my phone and I’ll be able to control my heating and AC system. Plus, the programmable thermostat can learn my schedule and have my heating and cooling system just the way I want it without me having to tell it to do anything. Once all my family and friends started to get in to smart thermostats I knew I wanted to join in. The timing couldn’t be more perfect either because the local heat and AC supplier was having a sale that was going on. I was able to get it for 30% off. Now I have a brand new smart thermostat instead of an old outdated dial thermostat.

If you live where I live you would know why I wouldn’t want to live without any kind of heating system.

I have found myself using space heaters a lot recently to keep myself warm and this is because the price to keep the central heating system running during the cold winter months can quickly add up and become very expensive.

A space heater is a less expensive but just as effective option to keep yourself warm during those cold winter months. Okay, I lied a little bit when I said that it’s just as effective. The space heater is great but I can’t heat your entire home unlike a regular gas furnace can. It’s only capable of heating up one room at a time, but if you’re fine with staying in one room with the space heater you’ll feel nice and toasty all throughout the winter and not have to worry about getting cold at all. The space heater is also great to have as a backup in case the main heating system stops working. I had to do my best to take good care of my heating and cooling system so it doesn’t break down during the winter months, but a couple years ago it did break down during the winter and this sort of having to call for emergency HVAC repair is like I would have had to done, I had my space heater that was able to save the day. Because of this I was able to take my time having my gas furnace repaired.

When my window AC stopped working I really wanted to get it repaired as soon as possible.

However, at the same time I really didn’t want to have to call a heating and cooling technician to come out and have to repair it for me.

So I started getting the idea in my head that what if I could fix it myself? So I decided to do some research online to see if I could indeed fix it myself and I found lots of video tutorials that showed how you could fix what was wrong with your window air conditioning system. I was really relieved that I wouldn’t have to take it to a heating and AC technician just to have it repaired. I watched hours and hours worth of videos just to see what the best way to repair it was. After a couple days of watching these videos on repeat I felt really convinced that I would be able to do this myself. I got to work working on my window air conditioning system and sure enough within a couple hours I had it working again. While I wouldn’t recommend what I do to everybody, fixing your own AC or heating system is considerable if it’s a simple repair that can be done yourself. Anything bigger than that really should be done by a heating and AC professional. Replace the window air conditioning system in the window in my bedroom and I have had nothing but a constant stream of cool air ever since then. My sleep has never been better.

One month ago my boyfriend and I broke up and it has been hard for me ever since then. I wish that there was a way that we could have made things work but we had just grown apart as people and so it was time for us to move on. One of the things that we have been struggling with was staying close to each other. We were trying to make a long distance relationship work and while that works for some people and unfortunately it didn’t work for us. Additionally by the time that we broke up we were pretty different people than we were from the time we first met. We have been dating for 3 years and I truly thought that he was the guy that I was going to marry. When the time did come where we were able to finally spend some time together he wasn’t ever able to stay at the house very long. He was always running off to do emergency HVAC repairs. He worked as a heating and AC specialist and while he was great at what he did, and I was really proud of how good he was at his job, it was just another thing that’s keeping us apart because of how frequently he had to leave to do heating in AC repairs. I remember this one time we got to finally have some time together alone and in the middle of having dinner he had to leave to do yet another emergency heat and AC repair. Somebody didn’t have their furnace repaired for the winter and now they were without heat. If you know how cold it gets through in this area then you know that that’s a real issue. I’m disappointed that didn’t work out but I hope he finds happiness in his job.

If I was to ask you what the most annoying insect ever is, what would your answer be? Mosquitoes? Ants? Flies? Ticks? While all of the above are definitely high up on that list, for me personally the answer isn’t any of them. One of the most annoying insects in my opinion is without a doubt gnats. I cannot stand the little things. The only thing I probably hate more than gnats is mosquitos. Mosquitoes are terrible in their own right, not only do they spread disease but they are like flying used needles. If you live in the south you can’t go outside at all without having those little bloodsucking demons attack you. The only real solution is some bug spray or to stay inside. I think most people can agree that mosquitoes are terrible but I’m not here to talk about them, I’m here to talk about gnats. Now gnats are by no means the most deadly, but I put them where they are because I find them to be the most annoying. Why is it that gnats must always dive for your eyes when you are outside? As if being outside isn’t bad enough, it never fails that during the summer months, and occasionally during the fall months, I somehow manage to get some in the house. It doesn’t matter how clean I keep the house, they just refuse to go away completely. Additionally, like most insects they are attracted to light so any computer or phone screens they love to buzz around. It makes an irritating process to get anything done when you have up to three of them buzzing around the screen. One thing I have found that has helped me some was to turn up my a/c on full blast. They can’t fly in turbulent air so it provides some temporary relief until I can kill the rest of them. My air conditioner actually does a pretty good job at keeping the pests at bay.

Sometimes, fun at the beach doesn’t always go as planned.

Last week I made a huge mistake by going to the beach without wearing any kind of sunscreen.

Feel free to call me an idiot because for some dumb reason I got this crazy idea in my head that sunscreen was actually ineffective and wouldn’t do anything to protect me. Boy, how wrong I was. I was really convinced that I wouldn’t get burned. As if I was invincible or something. I had to learn the hard way I guess because I found out that day that I was not only not invincible but that I burned just like anybody else. After spending hours playing games in the sand and swimming in the ocean I started to notice that my skin was turning an ugly lobster red. A few hours after the fun was over and I went home that was when I started to feel the heat and pain set in. Let me tell you, it was not a fun experience. I knew I had been burned badly and that not putting on any sunscreen was a really stupid descion. The only thing that I could find that would bring me some temporary relief was to lay directly underneath the air vent and allow my amazing air conditioning system to do its work and cool me down. The cold air to my hot skin was an amazing feeling. For the next few days all I would do is slather on some cooling aloe vera gel and lay under the air conditioning unit. I don’t think I had ever been so thankful for HVAC technology in my life. The sunburn did go away in a week and I learned to not ever not wear sunscreen. I also found a new appreciation for my wonderful a/c unit.

I recently upgraded to a new thermostat! I had been eyeing a new smart thermostat for some time.

A programmable thermostat was advertised to be everything that the dial thermostat was not.

A dial thermostat if you don’t know is the most basic thermostat ever and I was looking for something far more luxurious than that. I found what I was looking for in a smart thermostat. My favorite feature of the smart thermostat was that I could control the temperature of my home from anywhere. I don’t even have to be at home to control my indoor climate! How crazy is that!? The advancements in technology never fail to amaze me. Now I have to admit that the purchase of the smart thermostat was a bit of an impulse buy, but it has got to be one the best impulse purchases that I have ever made. I love being able to be anywhere and adjust the temperature simply by using an app. I also love the fact that the smart thermostat can learn your schedule and make adjustments accordingly. Now I have the perfect temperature after coming home from a long day. Sometimes it seems to know what I want before I even do. It has successfully learned my schedule and turns on the perfect temperature for me everytime without fail now. Now when I come home I get to walk into a house with not only perfect indoor air quality, but the perfect temperature as well. I love this and I don’t think that I would want it any other way.

The following day a heating and a/c technician came out to my home and inspected my HVAC unit

Sometimes the best thing that you can do is to get some help with something. As much as I may not like to admit it, I sometimes need help too. This can be hard for me to admit because I have never been the kind of person that likes to readily accept help from others. I would rather do things on my own. However, there are some things that we can all use a little help with, and for me I couldn’t fix my air conditioner by myself. Not only did I not know how, but I felt that this was something that was best left to the professionals. I accepted that I was going to get stuck paying for a heating and air conditioning appointment so the best thing that I could do was to go and get it over with as soon as possible. I was in luck too because when I called the heating and air conditioning supplier in my area they had plenty of open appointments available and so I scheduled one for the next day. The following day a heating and a/c technician came out to my home and inspected my HVAC unit. I told him that it had been previously making some strange noises and he told me that it had some loose parts inside of it that had been rattling around. Once he fixed it the a/c was like new again. I was glad to have it repaired because I was tired of hearing the loud noises that it had been making.
