When I first got my position, I had a good teacher. She came to me about 6 months into the job to give me a promotion. While she was my boss, it wasn’t entirely about job performance. My teacher was hoping to impart some reality to what otherwise seems like a glamorous job. She just wanted to make sure that if I continued our job, it would come with plenty of time away and relocations. Thankfully, I listened and all of the moves were not a surprise. Fortunately, I entirely paid close attention and l learned that I need to get familiar with corporate apartments. Otherwise, I guess I might have been totally up a creek with no paddle. The first transfer, I chose to go with the furnished house for rent route. While it was nice to have a short term rental option, I still had to stuff all of my things away and then look for another apartment to live. However, by the time I got about 7 months into that current lease, I was moved to another project. That is just how this industry works. Sure, it pays really, really well and I get to live in some entirely cool locations. But, it’s not a simple life. Corporate apartments and now executive housing has changed all that for me. I now have a home base near the business headquarters. That is where I call home. But with the executive housing option, I can get temporary housing for months at a time to task whatever project that I am needed on. Maybe I will have a more settled life in a decade or so. But right now, corporate apartments have things better.
