Even though I live in an area where the air outside still holds a hint of freshness, I never noticed how poor my indoor air quality was.
- I had a get together with some of my friends and that was when I made the big discovery.
My one friend had never been in my apartment. He made a weird face when he walked in. I asked what was wrong with him? He told me he had never had air assault his sinuses like mine had. I asked what he meant and he asked if I didn’t notice how poor my air quality was? I was embarrassed when I realized what he meant. I knew he was an HVAC technician, but I wasn’t sure what he did. Then he told me that it is important to change out your air filters about once a month. He also talked about air conditioning and air purifiers. I knew about the air filter for my heating and air conditioning. To be honest, I had never given any thought to changing them. I guess I thought someone in the building would go to all the apartments and change the air filter. He just shook his head which made me feel bad. I went to town the following morning and picked up air filters for my air conditioning. I couldn’t believe how much nicer my indoor air felt and smelled. All I had done was change the air filter in the air conditioning unit. I couldn’t believe all the difference it had made. I suddenly realized that I had lived here for more than three years, and the air filter had never been changed.
