There’s no doubt about that.

I’m the sort of old guy that really likes to keep learning. I have plenty of friends who are just so full of it and act like they know everything because we’re old. Not me, I like to learn something everyday. Recently that happened when it came to understanding what makes HVAC technicians professionals. I really didn’t know just what it takes to be a person who can service and repair any HVAC equipment. It’s far more than just being handy with heating and cooling equipment. And I found out this from a handyman. I’m pretty bad when it comes to household projects so I tend to turn to a guy that always comes through for me. He’s one of those guys that can fix anything and he’s really reasonably priced as well. But when I asked him to take a look at the air conditioning, he straight up said no. But then he gave me a really good lesson as to why HVAC repairs are only for an HVAC professional. He explained fully just how much education and training goes into being a certified and licensed HVAC professional. Not to mention all the early training and certifications that have to be earned through factory training. For sure, to be called an HVAC technician is to be called an HVAC professional. There’s no doubt about that. So that was something I learned that day. And I’m really glad because I have a whole new perspective on just how valuable and essential HVAC professionals really are. I’m just so glad to know because I can now tell my old fart friends that their full of it when they pretend they know all about heating and cooling.

It’s that time again.

We’re less than a week away from Thanksgiving and my house is gearing up to host the family feast.

While there is a bit of grocery shopping to do still, we’re pretty set. However, I still need to stop at the home improvement store to get a case of HVAC air filters. That’s because we are now getting into holiday candle season. It’s a time of year that I just so love because of my wife. She has a tradition of filling the house with candlelight which is about the coolest thing ever with all that glow. But my wife’s holiday spirit is also part of that glow. Although there are more than 50 candles lit throughout the house as well. This is just always been her thing she just loves having candles burning throughout the entire holiday season. For sure, it just feels so cozy and even romantic but always comforting. That’s weird for me to believe I feel so cozy because I’m just not that into holiday sentiment. But all those candles being lit at that time of year has a way of really relieving stress and making me remember what I’m so lucky to enjoy. I have my best friend enjoying her favorite time fo the year and I think that’s just awesome. However with all those candles burning I still have to protect the HVAC equipment. There’s so much airborne candle wax that it will seal over the HVAC air filters really quickly. This is why I buy a case of HVAC filter before a single candle gets lit.

So it’s true. My family really like the upgraded cabin and the residential HVAC in there. The cabin I’m speaking of has been in my family for generations. Over that time there haven’t been too many changes to the cabin. When it comes to structure, it will be here until the end of time. The beams holding up the house we’re actually milled right here in the woods from oak trees on the property. But it was never anything like residential HVAC or a creature comforts. Man, when I was a kid, the mattresses were stuffed with whatever you could find to add some space between you and the floor. It was indeed beyond rustic. My sisters and I have always preferred it that way though. But we also noticed that many in our families were staying home inside the central air conditioning rather than join us at the cabin. That seems like such a waste since the big resistance with the kids and spouses were the accommodations. So we decided to do something about that. It was fun being up there with my sisters as we spent a week outside of the central air conditioning of our homes working on the place. Along with lots of other upgrades, we had to HVAC professionals come out to install 3 ductless heat pumps. This will be great for summer because it can get thick without HVAC cooling. But we also have Wi-Fi and satellite TV installed. The kitchen appliances are new and we actually put in some nice beds and other furniture. All my kids are asking me when we can go to the cabin next so I guess our mission is complete.

Dealing with being cooped up inside our central air conditioning wasn’t easy on our family during the pandemic. I don’t think any of us could have been any less prepared for all that went down. Being inside the air conditioning in my home with my husband and my kids was an ordeal. But it sure was better than it could have been I suppose. It took a long while for us to sort of get our bearings once the kids were at home with us. A week later, my husband was told his offices with his zone controlled HVAC would be closing. Thankfully he kept his job but we also had to endure pay cuts as well. There was a big part of our income that just wasn’t there anymore. And my part time job was gone as the retail shop I worked in closed up. The first thing on the list was the HVAC cooling for the summer of 2020 when it came to cutting costs. We sealed up the house and dialed up the thermostat to a higher setting than ever before. It was warm in our house and we had to break out the fans. However, our efforts resulted in saving a bunch of money that summer. And once we got to the holidays, it was a mixture of comfort with routine and a heavy case of being inside too much. But we kept on. Once we made it to that spring, I decided that we’d go the extra mile when it came to spring cleaning. I called the HVAC company and had them come out to do the ductwork cleaning and ductwork resealing. It was the perfect addition since we had spent so much time inside the house.

Like clockwork, I slid in and right out of the home improvement store during Thanksgiving week.

This is a yearly pilgrimage I make in order to protect my HVAC equipment for the upcoming Christmas holidays.

I don’t get anything else at the hardware store on that trip but HVAC filters. Thanksgiving week is my signal to get an entire case of HVAC air filters. I also do the cooking in our house so that means I do the shopping. Perhaps that’s one of the perks of working from home. I spend my day working at the computer in the air conditioning of my home. Even though I get to control my schedule it can still get a bit tedious. I like the fact that I’m working from home very much. So it was no problem for me to snag the HVAC air filters as I was getting the turkey and all the other good stuff. The reason I have to get an entire case of HVAC air filters is for the holiday because of one weird reason. Well maybe it’s not that weird but my wife and I go totally overboard when it comes to candles in the house. We have a full collection of them and we are adding to them all the time. Our house probably has more than 75 candles burning during the course of one holiday season. So that’s a lot of candle wax that ends up getting stuck to the HVAC return and plastered across the HVAC air filters. Hence, the reason I buy I case of HVAC air filters. I literally have to change them out just about once a week to keep the HVAC equipment from unobstructed air flow.

In my mind, this whole process was supposed to be a big, giant hassle for me. Flipping to the fact that we recently had to replace all the HVAC equipment in our home. It was a pretty big process when it came to HVAC replacement as we even had to replace parts of the ductwork. I was glad to have left all of this in the capable hands of the HVAC professionals though. Maybe it was all the HVAC maintenance that led me into a false sense of security. Our heating and cooling was just always working. But that’s sort of how it went when it came to the quality heating and air in our home. We have always gotten seasonal HVAC maintenance since the HVAC unit was installed when we bought this place. And other than changing the air filter and being sure the HVAC cabinet outside was unobstructed. I don’t do much else. There’s never been one instance where the heating and cooling equipment wasn’t working. That’s pretty amazing and I guess that’s why I was so surprised when the HVAC technician told me it was time to replace the HVAC unit. That was when he came out to do the air conditioning tune up early last spring. The really that’s all I needed to hear to get me to the HVAC company and get the whole process started. However, all that hassle just didn’t materialize. The HVAC professionals took care of everything and I couldn’t have been more happy with the results.

Keeping a clean home isn’t about being obsessive-compulsive, it’s about being sanitary & orderly. I l gained this from my mother & have stuck with these ideals for my entire life. Living with roommates in university was a learning experience to say the least. It was difficult being the only person who was willing to clean a lavatory shared by more than three bizarre people. That was disgusting, & inevitably I stopped living with friends & peers after failing to cope with that sort of situation. Plus, I was much happier in a one bedroom home regardless. I could be the master of my own domain in that sort of environment compared to a shared home with other people utilizing the same usual areas as I was. However, living alone can be daunting in other ways, especially when you just want personal companionship. And of course, you are in charge of all maintenance of the home you live in if you are by yourself. I had to learn Heating & A/C maintenance while living on my own. It’s not just about decreasing cooling system or furnace filters, but also by keeping the Heating & A/C idea clean. I started buying cooling system cleaning spray to clean my evaporator coils inside of my cooling system at least once a year. If I clean the air conditioning system coil like this yearly, it prevents any microbial buildup that could lead to problems down the road. This is key to maintaining good indoor air quality. Combine this with frequent filter changes & you can have clean indoor air on a long term basis.

I use a calendar app on my PC that allows me to plan for appointments, work deadlines, plus when to call the auto mechanic to schedule an oil change. This way I don’t forget about all of the important dates plus chores in my life. These smartphone apps have proven to be harshly helpful with day to day residing. There’s an app that regulates your bedtime by giving you reminders to get to sleep plus using lights plus sounds to slowly wake your brain up in the day so it’s not an drastic alarm pulling you out of a dead sleep. Still, my agenda organization plus planning seems to be my most used feature in my smartphone to date. I used to forget about doctor’s appointments plus visits to the doctor when I was a lot younger, as I would struggle to remember when I needed to write down a date on my physical calendar at home. Another thing I often forgot about until the last hour were air conditioner filter replacements. You should be replacing your Heating plus A/C filters once every numerous to many weeks if you live in a dusty environment love I do. Luckily, the HEPA filters in my whole-house air purifiers are much denser than a/c filters plus last up to many months by contrast. Regardless, it’s still helpful to put these reminders in my PC so I don’t forget when it comes time to buy a up-to-date HEPA filter to replace the aged 1!
