Currently, the air quality in my city is terrible due to smoke from wildfires that have been burning for a few weeks now. You can see the haze from the smoke in the sky and the air quality is so bad that the experts are advising us to wear masks. Especially those with asthma or respiratory issues as breathing in the smoke can lead to further complications. Aside from wearing a mask, the experts also mentioned that it was ok to run our HVAC units while the air quality is bad outside. This advice caught me by surprise because I was thinking that I should stop using my HVAC unit until after the air quality improves. Of course, it is best to make sure that the air filter is clean to guarantee that the indoor air is being filtered optimally. On the other hand, if you have a window air conditioner, it is not recommended to use it while the air quality is bad outside. The unit will pull the toxic air from outside into your home with very little filtration. If you must use a window air conditioner, then it would be in your best interest to purchase an air purifier as well. All in all, I am glad that it is safe to use my HVAC unit, but I am hoping that the air quality will be back to normal soon.

I have been traveling so much this year and I haven’t had time to do much around my home.

• And now that Summer is almost upon us, I am running out of time to prepare my house for the warmer months.

During this time of year, I like to clean my entire house from top to bottom. I go through my kids’ room and pack a container for charity with outgrown clothing as well as old toys. Additionally, I also like to change my curtains, clean out my closet, as well as clean out my pantry. Yes, I take the term spring cleaning very literally, and during a normal year, I would have all of this done at the beginning of the season. However, this year, I am behind and not to mention that I am yet to schedule my HVAC service. Scheduling my HVAC maintenance is another task on my to-do list for Spring. Though this task requires the least amount of effort on my part, it is one the most important things that I do every year, and it’s always at the top of my list. I like to schedule my HVAC service during the Spring because it is slow season for HVAC providers. Plus, I believe I receive better service during this time of year because the technician isn’t rushing through trying to get to the next appointment. So once things settle down, the first thing that I will do is to schedule my HVAC service appointment. Then I will also tackle the other tasks that I need to get done.

Can you believe that some schools still haven’t updated their HVAC systems? Even after the pandemic that we had, where indoor air quality became a major concern for us all.

I understand that installing new HVAC systems is a very expensive upgrade and the schools need approval as well as funding for those upgrades to take place.

I would think that the safety of the kids and faculty would be a top priority because they all need to breathe in clean air. And now that there is another crisis that has risen over the last few weeks, the discussion of indoor air quality is back on the table. We have been experiencing poor air quality in my state and have been advised to wear masks when outdoors. And kids with asthma as well as respiratory illnesses are being warned about the dangers of the air. If the outdoor air quality is bad, I would assume that the indoor air quality inside the school buildings is impacted as well. You can literally smell the smoke in the air that is probably filled with toxins as well as other pollutants. So, while we can’t control the air quality outside, it would be best if we did what we could to make sure the indoor air is safe for breathing. Therefore, I believe schools need to get the funding that is needed to install new HVAC systems or upgrade the ones that they have. Or perhaps install air purification systems throughout the school buildings to improve the indoor air quality. It’s the very least that they could do to protect the health of the students as well as the faculty.

Today, while I was outside in the yard pulling weeds, I heard a weird noise coming from my neighbor’s yard.

• After listening for a while, I realized it was coming from their HVAC condenser.

If you don’t know what an HVAC condenser is, it is the outside portion of a split HVAC unit. I live close to my neighbor, so I am used to hearing the condenser cycle on and off. And though the condenser is a bit noisy, this noise was unlike the typical noise I would hear. It sounded like there was some kind of metal loose inside the condenser. And after listening for about a minute or so, I realized that the noise wasn’t going away. So, of course, I went over to my neighbor’s house and let him know about the noise that I was hearing coming from the HVAC condenser. He wasn’t aware that it was making any weird noises. In fact, he said the air conditioner was working and cooling the inside of his home perfectly fine. I am not sure if he contacted his HVAC technician, but if I heard a weird noise coming from my HVAC unit, that would be the first thing that I would do. Weird noises usually indicate that there is something wrong. And even if the unit is functioning properly, it would be better to get the unit checked to identify the noise and get it fixed. Afterall, if there is something wrong with the unit, it would be better to identify the problem before it becomes a bigger one.

I have my Buddha quote right behind my screen, so when I am feeling impatient I look at it and it reminds me to concentrate my mind on the present moment. I can start feeling a bit antsy after working online for a while and get agitated, but one look at the sign on the wall reminds me to calm down and relax. All we have is now, but a lot of people are always in the future or the past with their minds and not in the present moment where they should be. The old lady at the cooling and heating supplier store was always telling me that I need to learn to relax, and working on my HVAC tech writing just reinforces her wisdom. I am always trying to stay in the present but it isn’t always so easy to do. My mind will start thinking about my fireplace and how it needs to be cleaned out, or it’ll float off and start thinking about how dirty my ductwork is and how it needs to be cleaned. So I am constantly trying to get my mind back to the present because it likes to go to other places all the time. Like the HEPA filter worker told me, if you spend all your time in the past or future you won’t even remember your life in the end. This makes sense and so I try to be here as much as possible and not daydream about the future or past. Anyway, maybe now I’ll go look at the ducts and see if my HVAC system needs cleaning. I like cooling down my room before I go to bed with my mini split a/c unit because my body runs very hot and I usually don’t sleep well if the room is too warm.

I got a jumpstart on the day by going to bed early last night and waking up early this morning. It is not easy to do though because the sun doesn’t go down till after 9:30pm and I am usually out till well after 10pm. So when I come home at night it ends up being a late night by the time I take a shower and eat dinner, usually going to sleep around 1am each night. But last night I came home early because I was so tired from not sleeping well this week. My air con system in my room went on the fritz for a few days until I got a hold of the cooling corp to send an HVAC tech out to look at the thing. It looks like they fixed the issue though and my room will be nice and cool from here on out. I like cooling down my room before I go to bed with my mini split a/c unit because my body runs very hot and I usually don’t sleep well if the room is too warm. It will be hot at night from now until the middle of September, so for the next three months I will be running my air each night. The SEER rating on my a/c unit is quite high so it doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg to cool the room down each month, something the HVAC salesman told me before I bought the unit from the shop. So now my room is really good for sleep each night.

We are staying at my gramp’s lakehouse this month and visiting my dear old grandparents while they are still here with us. They are getting up there, both being in their mid 80s, and they are getting more fragile each month and this could be one of our last trips here. So I am soaking it all in and enjoying our time on Big Bay while we are here. We will stay for another three weeks and then head home, but for now it is boating, skiing, and fishing for the next few weeks at gramp’s cool lakehouse. Cooling systems are non-existent in this house as there is a good breeze coming off of the lake that cools it down nicely, making it so air conditioning is not needed. We will have a big fish fry this weekend and a lot of my family is going to come into town for a big family reunion. We will get a fire going in the fireplace and my uncle’s will tell their HVAC tech stories to us all while we watch the fire. I will miss these times one day soon I am sure and I will always remember how many fun memories we made in this home. Gramps was a heating supplier and retired from the HVAC industry when he was 54 years old, enjoying fishing and drinking beer with his buddies, and he had a lot of buddies wow. There was always a friend coming to visit him, which tells me what a cool guy my grandfather really was and still is.

I had to go back to bed for 45 minutes to get a bit more rest for the morning.

• I woke up earlier than normal and did a chunk of my work, but then my eyes grew tired and needed a break so I went down for another nap.

I think I am good to go now for the rest of the day and in another 45 minutes I’ll take another break and head out for a little bike ride and a swim. I don’t really swim in the sea but just soak to wake up in the cool sea. Cooling down in the sea each morning gives me a jolt of energy to help me with my HVAC tech writing work. I will do this work for a few more years and then change to something else for a few more years part time. I’m an HVAC worker by trade in the day and a musician and volleyball player in the evenings, doing a lot of heating and cooling system work each day before switching to my passions. I think the music thing with our band is going to be heating up in a year or two as we are constantly evolving and the music just keeps getting better and better. It won’t be long before the local business has us do a show in their climate controlled bar and after that I bet a lot of other doors will open, which will propel us to new heights and possibly become a career in the future. Time is the teller though.

It’s the 28th of May, and I stand here contemplating the significance of Election Day in my region.

A sense of excitement fills the air in the city, then i will make my way to the polling station once I’ve finished with my writing! My mother-in-law’s partner was selected to be an election worker today and he was not excited about it, since he had to spend eight hours at the polling station, however, he admitted that diligent election workers are necessary to assist voters and guide them through the process, then the heat of the day has reminded me of the importance of heating and cooling systems, and I made a note to myself to schedule a maintenance plan to make sure that my component works smoothly throughout the year.

All the polling stations around the city are equipped with well-serviced Heating, Ventilation and A/C units to ensure a comfortable environment for the voters and, especially, the election workers, who have to spend pretty much all day there. Around the city, local contractors proudly display their support for the democratic process. A nearby heating and cooling supplier offered a discount on maintenance services, recognizing the importance of a comfortable indoor environment. As for me, here I am in my sanctuary of tranquility laboring on my writing for the Heating, Ventilation and A/C supplier. The heat has officially arrived now, and my partner and I will go to the beach later, once I’ve finished work. At home, my associate and I rely on our air conditioner to keep us cool until my associate and I are able to head to the beach. I spend a lot of time indoors laboring, and in order to enhance my indoor comfort, I installed a programmable control component that offers precise temperature control and energy-saving benefits.

Man, I prefer peanut butter.

It has the ability to boost my mood and energy levels and it only costs $3 at the local supermarket, which is lucky because the peanut butter jars at condo usually don’t last honestly long.

The overheated air is coming in through the window as I work on my PC, enticing me to go to the beach. My partner and I were thinking of going camping this week, but since it’s too much hassle to get everything ready and she has to work tomorrow, we decided to just take it simple and go to the beach instead. In the afternoon, I will meet my Heating and A/C tech buddy to play music in our favorite spot by the church where the priest lives. My associate and I made a song called “By the Sea” with the lyrics: “Here we are, by the sea. I hope the priest doesn’t mind us playing music tonight.” The cooling business I work for is getting ready for their cooling system sales and services, so it’s going to be a tied up Summer between playing music and working for the Heating and A/C dealer. My associate and I have some gigs lined up at some clubs in neighborhood this Summer and will also play in the winter at a ski resort in sites with awesome fireplaces… Further down the line, if we make enough cash, my buddy and I will buy an RV with a heating and cooling system so that we can travel across the country and play music. Since some of the sites we are playing at are far away from where we live, it’s practical to have an RV, so that way, we can spend the night in climate controlled luxury after we’ve done our gig.
