I ended up having trouble with our thermostat system a few weeks ago and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why.
I worked on it for a while to try and see if I could tell what the problem was, but I’m definitely no heating and cooling technician. I don’t know what in the world I’m doing when it comes to fixing things. I even went down to the furnace room in the basement to poke around and see if I could figure out if there was something wrong with the A/C unit instead of the thermostat. It’s not something that I have ever trained for or even read all that much about. I spent hours watching videos on HVAC websites and doing random things to try and figure out what the deal was. Of course, during all of this I was spending trying to fix it, the house was heating up more and more. Even though it’s almost the fall, I still have my central air conditioning running most of the time because it helps with my home’s indoor air quality. Anyway, I finally ended up calling my local HVAC company and making an appointment for them to come and fix the issue. The HVAC technician came out the very next day and it took him about ten seconds to fix my thermostat. He laughed when he told me what the problem was. It seems that the batteries in my digital programmable thermostat had gone dead. All I needed to fix the problem were some new batteries.
