Trying to reduce energy bills

I am always searching for new and better ways to conserve energy.

  • I’m never thrilled with the cost of my daily utility bills.

I’ve figured out that heating and cooling account for about 50% of our household energy consumption! Either the furnace or the a/c system are running nearly all year round. The weather in my local part is extreme, with temperatures swinging between disadvantage twenty-numerous and ninety degrees. In the winter, the two of us deal with the added problem of the wind chill and endless amounts of snow. In the summer, the problem is the high humidity. I’ve made an effort to tighten up the lake house to reduce energy waste. Because of the high cost of low E, thermal pane, Energy Star rated windows, I replaced them 1 by 1. Every time I saved up a few hundred dollars, I purchased a new window. There are twenty windows in the house, so the project took me a while. I’ve also weatherstripped the doors, insulated the attic and caulked every crack I could find. I invested in ceiling fans for the main rooms. The fans labor to push the heat down toward the floor while I was in the winter! Reversing the rotation of the blades encourages the heat up and out in the summer time months. I’ve realized that the best thing I can do to minimize energy bills is to take legitimately good care of the furnace and a/c system. I have enrolled in a maintenance plan with a local HVAC dealer… A licensed dealer shows up every Spring and fall to supply a full inspection, cleaning and adjustment of the cooling and heating equipment. If there’s any concern, he makes repairs or replaces worn out components. He dislinks the build up of contaminants that might otherwise block airflow, tightens loose linkions and lubricates moving parts. This service helps to avoid malfunction and promotes peak efficiency.
