I have always been sensitive to sound, even when I was a young child.

I often hear it turning on in the middle of the evening as I will open my eyes half awake in confusion. I have since solved this concern by using ear plugs while I sleep at evening. If my wife wasn’t here, I’d be upset that I wouldn’t be able to hear the smoke or carbon monoxide detectors in the event of an emergency.
