A couple of weeks ago, a new kid started school with me.
I have been attending a technical school so I can earn a certificate to work in the heating and air conditioning repair field.
Most of the other students in my class are from the same kind of family as me. Both of my parents grew up in this town and they both work blue collar jobs. I didn’t want to end up at the grocery store or the gas station, so I decided to apply to the technical school. I qualified for a grant because my family is under the income threshold. Most of the other students in my class are from the same high school and graduating class. When the new kid started a couple weeks ago, it was clear that he was a lot different than the rest of us. I didn’t know it at first, but I hung out with the kid a few days ago and we had lunch together. I got to know him much better while we waited for our heating and air conditioning repair class to start. The new kid is loaded with money. Both of his parents work in an office and he is going to start a business of his own as soon as he is finished with school. His parents already agreed to co-sign for a loan to start the business. This guy will never have to struggle and he will never understand what it is like to worry from one paycheck to the next. Going into the heating and air conditioning repair field seems like a strange career mode for a guy that could pick anything that he wants.
