I was frightened by the heavy machinery at that age. A lot of young boys would have been thrilled to see construction equipment like that, but it imparted on me a real sensitivity for loud noises. I didn’t like going to high school football games because of all the shouting, despite them being the main hangout spots for my friends at that age. I have never been able to get on a motorcycle because of the roaring sound of the engine. It’s easy to see why I’m such a light sleeper, as I can awaken from the sound of a person walking on the floor near my bed. Even the air conditioning kicking on sometimes wakes me up from my sleep. This got worse after we installed a new a/c last month that is more powerful than our old one. The air handler is inside a closet down the hall from our bedroom. I often hear it turning on in the middle of the night as I will open my eyes half awake in confusion. It’s frustrating because the air conditioner turns on and off a lot to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature. I can’t afford to get a new air conditioner, nor would I want a less powerful system just because the current one is a little louder than I’m used to. I have since solved this problem by using ear plugs while I sleep at night. If my wife wasn’t here, I’d be worried that I wouldn’t be able to hear the smoke or carbon monoxide detectors in the event of an emergency.

Even after restaurants in my state were reopened during the worst period of the pandemic, I refused to eat out. The number of infections was still high and my doctor was really blunt with me about the risks. He said that people have no choice but to remove their masks when they eat. Even if every person walked in with a mask on and reattached them after every single bite, it would still result in respiratory particles getting into the air on a minute by minute basis. Unlike some husbands, I actually helped my wife plan our wedding from day one. There’s just too much for two people to handle, let alone one. I never wanted a big wedding, but I knew that my wife did. She had talked about it on and off since we first met each other. It wasn’t some dream of a fairy tale wedding, but she clearly always wanted her large extended family to attend while throwing a fairly large party in the process. Aside from finding a caterer, a pastry chef, and a design team, we also had to decide on a venue for the wedding. We were originally planning on having the wedding outside, but due to our procrastination we were looking at an early August wedding unless we wanted to wait until after snow was on the ground. Unfortunately, our weather gets insanely hot in early August every single year. At the last minute of the preparations process, we decided to plan on having the ceremony indoors on the off chance that it’s 100 degrees outside. Since many of us would be wearing full suits and large dresses, a sweltering outdoor wedding didn’t sound like a fun time. When the big day finally arrived, we were hoping that things would proceed without any issues. Unfortunately, the air conditioner stopped working in our wedding venue the morning of the big day. When I arrived at the building to help set up everything, it felt like a sauna in there. I was seriously worried that we would be forced to cancel and reschedule our wedding, but thankfully they had an HVAC repairman over there almost immediately. He had the air conditioner running again just as the first guests started to arrive.

My brother worked for one summer as an assistant at a local HVAC company and now he thinks that he knows all that there is to know about heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and air purification.

It’s pretty annoying to me because I actually do know just about everything about the heating and cooling profession.

That’s because for the past twenty years, I have been the owner of a local commercial heating and cooling company. Not only did I get my HVAC certification straight out of high school, but I’ve also been doing continuing education for the past two decades. Any time that new HVAC technology comes out on the market, I’m the first one to sign up for a class or lecture or tradeshow so that I can go and learn all about it. But then of course my younger brother, who is an absolute know-it-all, goes to work for one summer as an assistant to an HVAC technician and all of a sudden, he knows just as much as I do about furnaces, air conditioning systems, and air purification systems. I say that with all of the sarcasm that I can muster. Anyway, it’s gotten to the point where I can barely stand to be around my own brother. He just won’t shut up about all of the things that he supposedly knows about the heating and cooling industry now. Some days, my patience is shorter than other days. I’m not a violent man, but I’m afraid that one day I might just punch him in the mouth or something!

My mind just wanders away, even if I’m doing something that I enjoy. Sometimes when I’m watching a movie that I really like, I will watch for ten minutes and then I realize that I have no idea what just happened on the screen right in front of me. It’s even worse when I’m actually trying to do something like work at home because I seem to get even more distracted at that point. It’s annoying when there’s something going on at my house because it’s nearly impossible for me to pay attention to my work. For instance, my central air conditioning unit has been making an annoying tapping noise lately whenever it’s running. I don’t know what the issue is, and I can’t say that I know very much at all about HVAC systems in general. The A/C seems to be cooling the house down just fine though. The only problem is the infernal tapping! It drives me bonkers, especially when I’m trying to make a phone call for work. I end up having to turn the A/C completely off when I’m working because I keep losing my train of thought thanks to the tapping noise that it makes. I guess I’m going to have to break down and call the local HVAC company to make an appointment.

I signed up for this online dating site a few months ago and I’ve had pretty good luck with it so far. I’ve met several nice people but yesterday I went on a date with this woman who seemed to be dating me for all the wrong reasons. On my dating profile I put down my profession, which is an HVAC technician. I have been an HVAC technician for almost twenty years now, since I got my HVAC certification straight out of high school and I’ve been working full time ever since. I have never had an issue with it before in three whole months of using this dating site, but this particular lady seemed more interested in the heating and cooling aspect of my profile than in anything else about me. She literally started asking me questions about her central air conditioning system from the moment that I picked her up. She was asking all kinds of specific questions about her specific central air conditioning system. I felt like she was really trying to get free air conditioning repair advice from me rather than trying to get to know me. I honestly didn’t feel like she was interested in me as a person at all. She just wanted to find out what I knew about her type of A/C system and see if I could come and fix it for her for free! I couldn’t believe it, but I guess every date isn’t going to be a winning situation. This date was one of the worst dates I’ve ever been on in my life!

My wife is really buckling down and tightening up the budget for us this year! She has always been a pretty stingy person, but it’s gotten a lot worse over the past year.

I think it’s because of all of the shutdowns that happened around here because of Covid last year. She was nervous that we might lose our jobs and our income because of the shutdowns and so she really started to tighten up the purse strings lately. She doesn’t want to let me purchase hardly anything at all, and it’s getting old, if you ask me. The worst thing that she has decided that we need to do is to stop using our central air conditioning system this summer. When she first started trying to revamp our budget, she noticed that our air conditioning bills were always one of the most expensive things that we have to pay during the summer. That’s why she decided that this summer, we should not really use our central A/C much at all. I tried to tell her that the reason that our cooling bills are so high is because it gets so ridiculously hot around here during the summertime! If we don’t run our A/C this summer, we might literally just melt away when the temperatures start heating up. You would have to know my wife, though. She is a real hard case when it comes to spending money. I don’t know what I’m going to do! Probably, I’m just going to be hot this summer. I can’t ever get that woman to change her mind.

When my wife and I moved into our new house, we didn’t realize there was any issue with the HVAC system.

Well, when we got into the summer and had to use the air conditioning system, we were shocked when the system just quit working. My wife asked me to call the HVAC company and I did. The HVAC professional was telling us that we had to upgrade the HVAC because it was too old and worn out. We were assured previously that we could get another 5 years from the HVAC. We decided to get an estimate for how much it would cost for a new central HVAC unit. I couldn’t believe how outrageous the cost was and I didn’t like it. Then a friend told me that we could install an HVAC system. I laughed and said that I was not an HVAC professional. He then explained to me that there were DIY ductless mini splits on the market and they seemed relatively easy to have installed. He explained that basically, you just have to drill a hole with a hole saw through the wall to the outside so you can put all your tubing and wiring through to the outdoor condenser unit. So I ordered this new HVAC system and with my buddy, we were able to install the thing. With the installation videos, everything was a breeze. The model of ductless mini split I went for also was very simple. The hose line sets had quick connect features for very easy work and everything was basically idiot proof.
