My mother can be just the most stubborn person alive.
But that should be not at all surprising to me.
She’s been fiercely independent and headstrong as long as I’ve been her son. But dang, she also raised four kids in a three bedroom house that was tiny and didn’t even have residential HVAC. We grew up in that house and it was for sure cramped. Yet, we had all that we needed and more as it turned out. There was a wood stove for heating and all the fan in your face that you could stand had to do for air conditioning in the Summer. That was rough. But we also had so much more than the tangible stuff that we were doing without. There was a love and respect and loyalty that my brothers and sister and I have that’s invaluable. Plus, we learned from the best when it came to standing your ground and getting what you want. These days, my mom is still in that house and I’m the one living closest. I live just one town away and can get to her in life 40 minutes. We often take our young ones over to see their Grandma. And it was my baby girl who finally turned the tide when it came to my mom and modern HVAC. I couldn’t get her to allow my siblings and I to update any part of the house. But my daughter looked right at my mom and told her she didn’t know how much she could visit this Summer since Grandma doesn’t have air conditioning. I had the green light to call the HVAC professionals before lunchtime the next day.
