Can I use my air conditioner component when the air quality is bad outside?

Currently, the air quality in my neighborhood is bad due to smoke from wildfires that have been burning for a few weeks now… You can see the haze from the smoke in the sky & the air quality is so bad that the experts are advising us to wear masks, then especially those with asthma or respiratory issues as breathing in the smoke can lead to further issues.

Aside from wearing a mask, the experts also mentioned that it was ok to run our Heating & A/C units while the air quality is bad outside… This advice caught me by surprise because I was thinking that I should stop using my Heating & A/C component until after the air quality improves.

Turns out, if you’re like me & you have a central Heating & A/C, it will circulate & filter the indoor air, so the toxic air from outside will not get pulled into the unit. Of course, it is best to make sure that the air filter is scrub to guarantee that the indoor air is being filtered optimally. On the other hand, if you have a window air conditioner unit, it is not suggested to use it while the air quality is bad outside. The component will pull the toxic air from outside into your condo with really little filtration; If you must use a window air conditioner unit, then it would be in your best interest to purchase an air cleaner as well. The air cleaner will help to safely detach toxins that might be circulating throughout your home. All in all, I am gleeful that it is safe to use my Heating & A/C unit, but I am hoping that the air quality will be back to normal soon.
