Years ago I trusted all of my vehicle maintenance to a single mechanic shop here in my hometown. They were the cheapest mechanic shop around, and they were used by my parents and my siblings. I never considered looking at online ratings and attempting to find a mechanic with better reviews. It all came to an end when I had them replace my brakes, only for the new ones to fail on my way home from work just a few days later. I had never been to the closest mechanic shop, but I didn’t have time or money to waste so I had my insurance company tow my car there for repairs. They told me that the new brakes in my car were actually rusted and used. The new mechanics said that the brakes looked like they had been picked out of a scrap yard. Because I wanted to keep going to a cheap mechanic, I entrusted something deadly in the hands of incompetent repairmen. I won’t even do this with my air conditioner anymore. It was the same situation as with my car, I had a cheap HVAC supplier looking after my air conditioner for years when I got a second quote one afternoon. This new company found problems with my coolant pressure that the cheap company was ignoring. Pretty soon the coil would have cracked, and it was no longer under warranty. It almost seems like the cheap company was purposefully letting the coil break so they could charge me for parts and labor. I’ll gladly pay more if it’s better service with honest technicians.
