Working out outside is better

I used to live in the far north, where working out was always a problem. The inclement weather kept me inside the house most of the time. We dealt with temperatures down to twenty-six below zero and a yearly snow accumulation of sixteen feet every winter. It’s difficult to dress warm enough to withstand temperatures well below zero. Running in feet of snow and possibly slipping on an icy surface is actually dangerous. In the summer, the temperature frequently soared into the low nineties with brutal humidity. I’d be drenched with sweat before I even finished my warmup. I’d feel tired and find it nearly impossible to get motivated for the workout. The spring and fall seasons were typically wet, chilly and windy. I needed to set up a home gym but never had adequate space. I was always worried about causing damage to furnishings. Since I’ve moved further south, my workouts have definitely improved. I’m able to head outside nearly every day. I often go for eight mile runs, kayak on the lake located behind my house, play tennis and go for bike rides. Not only do I have way more energy but switching up the style of exercise is proving really beneficial. I can allow my joints a chance to rest and I’m targeting different muscle groups. I am more motivated and get more benefit out of the time I devote. I’ve lost weight and improved strength and endurance. I’ve never felt so fir. I think that just stepping outside and breathing the fresh air is wonderful for my health. I normally devote an hour to physical activity first thing in the morning. I then enjoy a better mood and greater productivity for rest of the day.
