I learned this information the hard way. My son’s birthday is a couple of days before Christmas. Last year, we decided to have a holiday party and birthday party on the same day. About halfway through the night, I noticed the indoor temperatures were getting colder and colder. I didn’t want to worry my wife, so I snuck away and checked the thermostat. It was clear that the furnace was not working when the temperature on the thermostat was 62 degrees. I told my wife that I wanted to talk to her about something in the kitchen and I told her that we were having trouble with a furnace. I immediately suggested we call the heating company. I really didn’t want to pay the emergency weekend fees, but we were in the middle of a party and we didn’t have any choice. Of course, the technician from the heating company didn’t even arrive until most of the guests were already on their way out the front door.
