I suppose the fact that I really have gotten into poker over the last few years could have something to do with it.
But I think betting on a 25 year old heat pump was just really more bourn out of stupidity.
It’s true, I discovered poker in my early 40’s with my girlfriends and fell in love with it. I have so much fun with the Texas hold em type games. It’s not super serious and there’s never any real amount of money at stake. However, I just love the strategy and even started to learn more about poker online from the air conditioning of my house. But when the HVAC technician told me that the HVAC unit needed to be replaced, that was a house wins proposition. As part of the HVAC service plan that I pay for, the heat pump gets seasonal HVAC maintenance every fall and again every spring. Last year the HVAC professional told me I needed to get with it as the heat pump wasn’t going to last much longer. Did I get with it? Well barely. I started saving money and I spoke with the HVAC contractor who helped me with the process. But I think it was more just me passively deciding that I was betting on the heat pump to get me one more summer of air conditioning. That’s how it really went down. Had that been a hand of poker, I would have folded and instead, I doubled down on a 25 year old heat pump. Of course, the heat pump died in the middle of July. But that’s how that goes when you go with some of your dumber instincts.
