The HVAC repair turned out to be a doozy

Last Tuesday, outdoor temperatures were over a hundred degrees. It’s very rare for us to have temperatures over 100°, so a lot of people were having trouble. AC repair calls were coming to the repair shop one after another. People were trying to combat the intense Heat by adjusting their air conditioner lower. Fortunately, that does not help when the temperature is hot. Your home AC system can only remove so much heat and humidity from the indoor air. Usually the air conditioner can cool temperatures about 20 degrees lower than the temperatures outside. When it is 105 degrees outdoors, it is impossible to maintain a 70 degree level inside of your home. One customer adjusted the thermostat all the way to 65 degrees. When the air conditioner started putting out warm air, the woman called the repair shop. The first thing we told her to do was to turn off the air conditioner all together. When problems like this occur, it is usually due to frozen evaporator coils. When the evaporator coils freeze, there is nothing you can do to help the problem. You just have to wait until they thaw out. This process can take several hours. You can use a hairdryer to hasten the process, but it is recommended to simply wait. Giving the AC a break for a couple of hours is helpful when the temperatures are extremely hot and humid. If you can go outside during the hottest part of the day instead of running the air conditioner, you will find yourself saving about $100 every month on your cooling bills.
