Electricians can perform a number of different jobs and duties. Everything in your home runs on electricity and that means that an electrician can make your life much easier. Some of the duties of an electrician include testing devices, troubleshooting problems, and working with electrical equipment. Electricians can inspect circuit breakers, electrical components, transformers, and circuitry. Becoming an electrician does not require a four-year degree. It is a skilled trade just like plumbing, mechanics, and HVAC work. When I was in high school, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I knew that college did not sound like a lot of fun. I didn’t see myself spending another 4 years in school with four or five classes every single day. I was happy to get out of high school and I didn’t want to go back. I did need a career and a way to make money. I did not want to spend the rest of my life working at the grocery store. My Dad’s friend offered to give me a job as an apprentice working at his company. Most of the time I helped out in the shop and I was there to lend a helping hand but eventually I learned a lot about the job that an electrician does. After working as an apprentice for 2 years, I finally had the ability to take a test to get my own electrician’s license. I passed the first time, thanks to a lot of test preparation that I did online.
