Rattling pipes

He went upstairs to ask my sister about how often she heard the noise and she said probably about every 30 minutes or so and then he informed her about where the noise was coming from.

My sister called me last week very upset because she thought someone was trying to get into her house. I asked her why she thought that. She said that she kept hearing a rattling noise followed by a loud thud in the basement. I was concerned because that did not sound like something that would be normal. She lives in an area of town that has a high crime rate so I felt she had reason to worry. My husband and I got in the car and headed right over to see if we could figure out what was happening. She said she didn’t want to involve the police if it was nothing because then if there really was a problem they wouldn’t come. When we arrived my husband headed down into the basement armed with a baseball bat to see if there was an intruder and found nothing. Well he was down there he did hear the rattling noise and the thud and realized it was coming from the boiler. He went upstairs to ask my sister about how often she heard the noise and she said probably about every 30 minutes or so and then he informed her about where the noise was coming from. He asked about the last time she had her system looked at, but she simply said she had never had anything done. He told her there was definitely something wrong with it and that she should call an HVAC dealer right away which she did the following morning. When they investigated they found that there was so much air in the lines that each time the system turned on it rattled through the pipes and that was what was causing the noises.
