Much of my life went by me without me really noticing it. It’s not that I was holed up in a basement with too much air conditioning for a decade or too. And I was taking care of all the stuff like the HVAC chores every single month. I’m not sure I have ever actually changed the HVAC air filter on time for 10 or 12 months in a row. And this attention to the HVAC also saved me a rather expensive HVAC repairman bill. Walking by the HVAC cabinet outside, I heard a weird noise. Instead of continuing on, I called the HVAC company on the spot. Turns out what I was hearing was the beginning of what would eventually be a breakdown and expensive. But I caught it early and the HVAC professional was able to mitigate the damage big time.

Maybe take a birdseye view of where you’ve been and where you are. For me, this process brings a lot of gratitude. I’m having a ductless mini split put into the pool house on my property like it’s just any old thing. And that is stunning. Given that I grew up with trying to get my slice of window air conditioner, a separate HVAC unit in a pool house seems really strange. But here I am. And all I can say is that I had a passion, went for it the ethical way and it worked out. That is something that is indeed rare. I could just as easily be figuring out just where to buy another window air conditioner for my 2 bedroom house. Instead, I have a nice house, a pool and a newly HVAC maintained pool house. But honestly, I have to admit having heating and cooling in that pool house is awesome. Obviously in the summer the air conditioning is wonderful to have out there. Yet for me, the best part is having the heating option. This is because I love coming out to the hot tub in the winter. And being able to flip on the ductless mini split to warm up and get dressed is simply the best. Like I said, sometimes I have to just step back and sort of shake my head. It’s simply amazing to be living this sort of life and I don’t ever want to take it for granted.

It happened again.

My company came to me with yet another job opportunity that would continue my career track in the direction that I want it to go.

But, this one comes with a move. And that made the decision to leave that much tougher. Plus, we were leaving a place where the HVAC heat pump was king for a place that needed a gas furnace as a heater in the winter. This was a very big deal for me as I’m southern to my core. However, the relocation made it much easier to broach with my wife. By some sort of serendipitous stroke of luck, we are moving to my wife’s home region. While I will be giving up my mild winters and all that air conditioning of the summer, she’ll be getting back her snow and cozy heating. But getting the house packed and sold was the big issue. We had renovated the house not too long ago to our satisfaction and that aspect would appeal to buyers. However, we had to upgrade the HVAC equipment. I made a call to our HVAC company to plead with them for help in making this all happen in just a few weeks time. And bless them, those HVAC professionals made it happen. The HVAC contractor got out to our house to do the inspection and go over our options for heating and cooling equipment. Once we were able to make that choice, the HVAC contractor was able to expedite the installation date so we could get our home on the market fast. And that new HVAC equipment put the house over the top. Our home was no the market for 5 days when we got a cash offer over our asking price.

While the pandemic has certainly not been something I would ever want to repeat, I have learned a lot over the past year.

Like I learned that my family can coexist in one house for an extended period of time. It helps a lot that we have zone controlled HVAC. This means that there are 6 independent comfort zones inside the house. And they all have their own independent thermostat. So that at least kept the bickering about the thermostat setting to an extreme minimum. I also learned that I can work from home. This is something that I would not have believed had I not witnessed it. In fact, I’m not all that hyped about going back to the office when it opens in a few weeks. But one of the most important things I learned this past year was just how important indoor air quality is. During my research on improving immune health last year, I learned that indoor air quality is high on the essential list. This led me to air purification. And that led me to call the HVAC company and talk over my options with them. There were several HVAC options from HEPA filters to whole home air purification systems. I ended up going with a UV light whole home air purification. In the end, it just made more sense for our home and how we live. It made an impact right away. First, I was surprised at how much easier I breathed and my occasional sinus problems simply disappeared. And we now have the freshest smelling air you can believe. It smells so good and you also know that it’s just so clean as well.
